In 1849-1850, Sarah Green Davis traveled with her husband and daughter by covered wagon from Michigan to California. Her diary records the hardships and hopes of the trail—freezing nights, dust, dangerous rivers, and endless work—yet she wrote with resilience and optimism. Today, her words stand as one of the most vivid accounts of the overland journey west. The photo above, taken by myself is of Devil's Gate, a key landmark along the trail.
